Guide to Kuta

Kuta is right within Bali’s beating heart, attracting a unique mix of global travelers, many of whom enjoy a bit of liveliness. As one of the more developed tourist areas, it’s ideal for anyone looking for the more exciting activities that a big city provides. So let’s have a look at what this notorious party city could have in store for you when you venture into town!

Where to Stay

You’ll find Kuta is a good place to base yourself if you’re looking to get out and about every day – you won’t find much of a resort-style holiday here. That being said, Kuta Lagoon Resort is one of the more popular places to bunk while in town.

If you’re wanting a mix of the nightlife along with more family-friendly accommodation, your best bet is to head to the south of Kuta. Here you’ll find a much more relaxed holiday setting with the south being home to some of Bali’s best family hotels and beach resorts. This is also where Waterbom, Bali’s biggest water park is – which, let’s be honest, is exciting for all ages!

What to Do in Kuta

Kuta is well known for its unique and wild nightlife scene that boasts a huge variety of nightclubs that are buzzing until the early hours of the morning. You’ll also find a host of bars and restaurants, including the very popular Hard Rock Café. But if you’re after something a little more low-key, there are plenty of quaint and quiet café’s around – it is Bali after all!

But this place isn’t just about partying, there are loads of amazing activities to do around town. If you’re looking to just chill-out with some of the friendly locals or learn to ride a surfboard, then Kuta Beach is the place for you. It’s a stunning stretch of sand and water where you can find all sorts of things to do to keep you entertained – including snorkeling through the waves to marvel at the incredible aquatic life!

If you’re there in the morning, Kuta Beach is an awesome spot to recover from the night before. Just grab yourself a bottle of water and let its natural charm of sounds, sights and smells work their magic. But if you’re there in the late afternoon, make sure you stick around for the sunset – it’s a thing of beauty that you’ll hold close to your heart for years.

Shopping is another popular activity people venture to Kuta for as it’s a mecca for bargain hunters looking for cheap DVDs, leather goods and casual wear. That being said, be wary of the traffic if you’re planning a shopping expedition. Many of the streets are one way and if you’re in a taxi it can take a while to get around, so it might be a nice idea to do your shopping on foot – Kuta’s a lovely place to walk around!

SOUTH KUTA (Tuban)

This area is more suited to families and those looking for a more relaxed holiday and is where you will find some of Bali’s best family orientated resorts, many with beach front locations. It is also home to Bali’s biggest water theme park – Waterbom – with a fantastic selection of waterslides and activities to suit the thrillseeker or the little ones alike. Here you can also shop in air-conditioned comfort at the Discovery Kartika Mall, browse through the Art Markets for a souvenir or two or head to Matahari Department Store in well know Kuta Square.
