Generally speaking, it’s easy to travel with children to Vanuatu because of the huge number of family-friendly resorts and activities. Although you may need to do a little advance planning to make sure you have all the essentials you need to make your family holiday in this paradise just right!

Vanuatu has a ton of different things to do, all of which are suited to people of all ages. So with so many activities to choose from, you shouldn’t have any difficulty finding things which the whole family will enjoy!

Some of the most popular things for families to do include exploring the Mele Cascades, snorkelling around Hideaway Island, visiting some of the locals in their culture-filled villages or just shopping around in the local markets, which are usually full of interesting trinkets and souvenirs.

That being said though, if you’re planning on spending time with the family on some of the more remote Vanuatu islands, away from the likes of Efate, Espiritu Santo or Tanna, you’ll want to consider that you may not experience a great deal of luxury in the activities available. For instance, transport in remote areas can sometimes be in the back of a truck bouncing down an unsealed road. There are even some speedboat services which offer rides without the use of life jackets, as well as accommodation without running water and electricity. So just be sure to factor in these things if you’re away from the main islands for activities.

Teen time

Vanuatu's lush nature and adventure activities are enough to turn the stroppiest teen into a grinning traveller. Just a word of warning - a trip here is sure to infect your young adults with the travel bug!

This island nation is the ideal place to expose teens to some culture and open their eyes to a different way of life while acquainting them with new thrills and experiences. They are sure to get a kick out of activities like renting buggies, paddle boarding and snorkelling through marine reserves!

Baby steps

Introduce your toddlers to the magic of island life - it's never too early to foster a love for exotic locales and gourmet food!

The warm and kind ni-Vanuatu people will be delighted to see your little ones, so prepare to be greeted by smiles and kind words everywhere you go. Take your babies on a trip to the local markets to take in the sights, sounds and aromas of the local culture, and pick up a few souvenirs to remind you of your trip.

If you’re travelling with young children and are worried that you aren’t going to be able to pack enough supplies, then don’t worry! Supplies for babies, like baby food, formula and nappies are easily purchasable in Port Vila.

However, you should know that they may be difficult to find on some of the other islands. So stock up on the basics if you’re planning on taking the little ones to some of the more remote areas.
