Accommodation

From low-key and low-cost hotels and hostels to luxurious, world-class resorts, Fiji has it covered. On a nation of islands such as this, you can find a remote corner and just relax, or plonk yourself in the thick of the action, where activities and experiences are at your doorstep. Or you may prefer a bit of both (there is no rule that says you can’t book into different places on different islands).

Here are some sensational accommodation options in a variety of destinations on Fiji’s main island Viti Levu (the Coral Coast, Denarau) and offshore islands.

Coral Coast

The spectacular Coral Coast is an 80km stretch of beaches, a vast coral reef and secluded bays, running along the southern coast of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu. It’s dotted with terrific resorts, hotels and backpackers ready to cater for all budgets, and is home to the birthplace of Fijian tourism in the 1950s (the Korolevu Beach Hotel).

If you’re staying on the Coral Coast, Hoot will be able to assist you with organising transfers or hire cars from Nadi Airport.

The Naviti Resort

The Naviti Resort Fiji celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018, and that means it’s served a lot of happy people. A sophisticated and stylish resort, it’s set on 38 acres of verdant tropical gardens and boasts multiple bars and restaurants and a swim-up pool bar.

There are 220 inviting rooms, suites and villas; a spa; kids’ club; and activities including archery lessons, tennis, volleyball, fish feeding, kayaking and snorkelling. Plus, they offer an all-inclusive package where you pay a figure up-front, then eat and drink until your heart is content.

Distance from Nadi Airport: 95km.

The Warwick Fiji

The Warwick Fiji is positioned perfectly in the heart of the Coral Coast along a stretch of golden sand beach and crystal clear lagoons.

The 247 luxurious rooms and suites have sweeping ocean and garden views, as well as air-conditioning, flat-screen satellite television, tea and coffee-making facilities, telephone, in-room safe, mini-bar and refrigerator.

Set over 28 lushly landscaped acres, the resort caters to families, couples and business travellers, and has five restaurants including Italian (Pappagallo), Japanese (Sazanami), seafood (Wicked Walu) and the international Bula Brasserie. Both the Wicked Walu and Sazanami are voted top restaurants in the whole of Fiji, so don’t miss out on a table and book early.

Distance from Nadi Airport: 99km.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort

At the five-star Outrigger Resort Fiji you’ll enjoy an exquisite seaside setting reminiscent of a traditional Fijian village. Your whims will be catered to by the Talai butlers, while all your worries will melt away at the hilltop Bebe Spa.

There are superb pools and whirlpool spas, and activities for kids and teens. You can kayak, snorkel, paddle board and dive, and work off all those good times at the Sundowner Bar & Grill in the 24/7 fitness centre.

Distance from Nadi Airport: 77km.

 Shangri-la Fijian Resort and Spa

The first thing you’ll notice, once you’ve stopped marvelling at the stunning luxury accommodation and beautiful ocean views, is the giant 25x25m inflatable waterpark perched offshore. The only one of its kind on the Coral Coast, this is a real drawcard for families. There is plenty for adults to do too, with an on-site beauty salon, spa, shops, six restaurants, two bars, an adults-only wing including a pool, restaurant and reception, and all the watersport fun you could ask for.

The Shangri-la Fiji is set on 109-acres and has 442 rooms, three pools, a golf course and a chapel; there really is something for the whole family and every occasion.

Distance from Nadi Airport: 59km.

InterContinental Fijian Golf Resort and Spa

The InterCon is nestled amongst 35 acres of tropical gardens along the picturesque Natadola Bay, which is a stunning setting for a resort. It’s protected by a reef, which creates an aqua blue ocean-facing lagoon.

There are 266 rooms; world-class dining; luxury spa; three swimming pools; an 18-hole championship golf course; kids’ club; and a wedding pavilion. Enjoy classic Fijian hospitality at this magnificent luxury resort.

Distance from Nadi Airport: 50km.

 DoubleTree Resort By Hilton

The resort, located on Sonaisali Island, is a 25-minute drive from Nadi International Airport, followed by a three-minute boat ride from the Viti Levu mainland.

Each of the beachfront guest rooms incorporates a furnished balcony with stunning views of the South Pacific Ocean, and a wide range of guest amenities including Smart TV with satellite channels. Activities include horse riding, water sports and cultural experiences, and there is a luxury spa, fitness centre, tennis court and large pool overlooking the beach.

Distance from Nadi Airport: 21km.

Denarau Island

Denarau Island’s great choice of resorts and close proximity (14km) to Nadi International Airport on the main Fijian island Viti Levu makes it one of the most popular destinations for people on holidays who want to clear customs, make a quick transfer to the hotel, check-in and let the happiness begin.
Getting there: Your Denararu Island holiday package may include transfers, or you may prefer a taxi or to book a hire car. Ask Hoot for advice when discussing your requirements.

Sofitel Resort & Spa

A tranquil, luxurious escape set on lush and private 26-acre grounds, the Sofitel Resort & Spa on Denarau is a beachfront resort with 296 ocean facing rooms and suites.

It offers fresh, seasonal dining; an array of activities for kids; proud displays of Fijian culture; an adults-only beach club with its own gym; three restaurants, two bars and a café; and the So SPA, where each treatment bure includes an air-conditioned massage pavilion, open-air outdoor shower and beautiful Fijian artwork. The deluxe spa bures include a private whirlpool spa bath.

Radisson Blu Resort

Each of the 135 spacious hotel rooms features a private balcony or courtyard and has views of the resort’s tropical gardens, lagoon-style pools and 18-hole golf course. If you’d like more space, consider a suite, which comes with a kitchen and laundry facilities.

There is a kids’ club; pools including one exclusively for adults; Fiji’s only white-water tunnel slide; six on-site restaurants and cafes, including the Blu Bar & Grill, and Denarau’s first modern vegetarian restaurant Wild Thyme; and nightly entertainment.

Mamanuca Islands

This group of islands, just west of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu, are simply gorgeous, with their sandy beaches, warm turquoise ocean waters and gently swaying palm trees.

The Mamanucas are the closest islands to Nadi and are perfect for people who want to spend time in the water swimming, snorkelling, diving and surfing.

There is a wide range of accommodation options – from family-friendly bures to adults-only super luxe – across the Mamanucas.

Getting there: You can travel the short distance by boat, seaplane or helicopter.

Plantation Island Resort

The relaxed haven that is Plantation Island Resort is set on 23 lush acres of landscaped tropical gardens and is fringed by kilometres of white sandy beaches.

It’s only 16km from Nadi and has a range of studio, one- and two-bedroom bures, rooms, and garden terraces, with air-conditioning, fridge, ceiling fans and tea/coffee making facilities.

There are three freshwater swimming pools (one with slide); guest laundry; boutique; games room; mini-supermarket; medical clinic; and mini putt-putt.

Mana Island Resort & Spa

Located in the heart of the Mamanucas’ 27 islands, Mana Island Resort & Spa is about 30km west of Nadi and can be reached by boat, amphibious seaplane or 24-hour water taxi.

Choose from an airy bure, room or suite and then focus purely on enjoyment. The facilities include two pools; boutique; gym; water sports; kids’ club; tennis court; a Fijian bure, where you can try hat and basket weaving, learn about Fijian culture and take part in a traditional kava ceremony; and medical clinic.

Eateries include the casual Mamanuca Restaurant, the semi-formal South Beach Restaurant, Kura (Pan-Asian) and Nasu Teppan-Yaki (Japanese).

The Yasawa Islands

Fiji’s western border consists of the soaring peaks of the Yasawa Islands. There are no shops or banks, but you’re probably not here to shop, right? Not when there is so much natural beauty and you’re taking a journey along the road less travelled.

The Yasawas are some of the prettiest islands in Fiji, but accommodation is quite a different experience to the nearby Mamanucas and Denarau. Luxury Fiji resorts are becoming more popular, but the Yasawas are best known as a backpacker and flashpacker delight, offering affordable resorts and lodges, many run by locals.

Snorkel, kayak, swim and sail during the day, then enjoy a campfire barbecue at night. In the northern part of the island group, the limestone caves of Sawa-i-lau make for a great day trip. Those in search of a thrill can dive with manta rays on Drawaqa Island or snorkel with sharks on Kuata Island.

Getting there: A 30-minute seaplane ride from Nadi, or, if time is not of the essence, a leisurely ferry ride.

Vanua Levu

It might be Fiji’s second largest island, but Vanua Levu, northeast of main island Viti Levu, is less tourist orientated. From the picturesque main town of Savusavu, with its sheltered bay that provides a popular mooring spot for visiting yachts, to the virgin rainforest of the Wasali Nature Reserve, Vanua Levu is a natural paradise.

Whether you’re visiting the Snake Temple near Labasa, diving to discover the magnificent soft corals off the coast, or just cruising along the Hibiscus Highway, Vanua Levu showcases another stunning side of Fiji.

In Natewa Bay, spinner and bottle-nose dolphins are common sights. Meet the locals at Vuadomo Village, explore hidden waterfalls and tropical flora in the rainforest, or shop up a storm at the bustling Savusavu Farmers’ Market.

Getting there: There is a daily flight to Savusavu from Nadi, while flights depart from Suva every Tuesday and Thursday. You can also fly into Labasa airport from Nadi or Suva and take a scenic bus or taxi ride to Savusavu.

Regular ferry services depart Viti Levu for Savusavu and Nabouwalu, in Vanua Levu’s South-Western corner, including a car ferry, so you can make your own way.

Once you are there, regular bus services run between Savusavu and Labasa, and there are affordable taxis for hire from the Savusavu markets.
