Vietnam is jam-packed with activities to keep the kids occupied – and off their digital screens. The open-air restaurants are perfect for family dining and there are plenty to choose from at the famous China Beach in Da Nang. Here’s some great family activities worth exploring in the Hoi An and Da Nang regions. In Hoi An you could visit the Thanh Ha Pottery Village (three kilometres west of Hoi An); get up early and visit the Hoi An Fish Market; or ride in bamboo basket boats on the Tra Nhieu Eco Tour.  If you are staying at the Hoi An Silk Marina Resort you should take the My Son Coach Tour. A shuttle bus picks you up at the hotel and takes you to My Son where you will see a traditional dance performance and take a walking tour of the Cham ruins. When you return to Hoi An you will take a two-hour boat trip down the Thu Bon River, passing a fishing village, a weaving village and Cam Than coconut jungle village. Your Hoot Holiday consultant can book this for you as part of your package.

In Da Nang, the kids will love the Asia Park which has more than 80 different rides; the Ba Na Hills Fantasy Park is an indoor amusement centre guaranteed to keep everyone occupied on a rainy day; and Marble Mountains – about nine kilometres from Da Nang – which is a cluster of limestone and marble hills, perfect for exploring. If you are looking for a good place to base yourself, the Centara Sandy Beach Resort in Da Nang has a great kids club and offers baby-sitting facilities. Vietnam is the perfect location for your holiday with the kids.

Something for the Couples

Cooking schools are a great way for couples to bond.  And Vietnam is famous for its love of food – and its cooking schools.  In Hoi An, you could try the Red Bridge Cooking School (a deluxe tour from 8am to 3pm with visits to the local markets and a three-hour hands-on class costs about $70).

The day starts at the Hai Café in the Hoi An Ancient town. In Da Nang, a half-day class at the Da Nang Home Cooking Class will cost you about $40. The tour will start when you are picked up at your hotel and presented with a Vietnamese coffee. Then it is on to the Hanh local markets to shop for your ingredients before creating a culinary masterpiece in the family kitchen.
