- Certificate of No Impedement (CNI):
- Apply via the Australian Embassy in Bangkok or the Consulate-General in Phuket with an appointment.
- Document Preparation
- Provide original documents: birth certificates, passports, recent photos, divorce or death certificates (if applicable).
- Statutory Declaration: The Thai authorities require a pro-forma affidavit that must be signed in-person at either the Embassy or Consulate.
- Documents must be translated into Thai by a certified translator and legalised by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Registration and Certification
- Both partners must appear at the local district office. All authenticated documents, including passports, must be provided (if applicable, divorce or death certificates of previous spouses must be included as well). Once approved, you will receive your marriage certificate.

Administrative Requirements for Vietnam
- Certificate of No Impediment (CNI)
- Apply via the Australian Embassy or Consulate-General in Vietnam.
- The form must remain blank until you are present, in person.
- Ensure you have your passports, birth certificates, proof of current marital status and divorce or death certificates of previous spouses, if applicable.
- Medical Certificate: You will require a certificate from an authorised Vietnamese medical facility following an evaluation.
- Document Preparation
- All documents must be legalized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Documents must be notarized and translated to Vietnamese.
- Registration and Certification
- Submit your application at the District People’s Committee or local Justice Department with all relevant documents. Processing usually takes 15-30 working days.
- Authorities may conduct an interview to confirm that the marriage is voluntary.
- Once approved, you will receive your marriage certificate.

Administrative Requirements for Fiji
- Certificate of No Impediment (CNI):
- Apply via the Australian High Commission in Suva, with your passport, birth certificate, divorce or death certificate if needed.
- Document Preparation
- Documents must be notarised and, if not in English, certified translations must be provided.
- Applying For Your Marriage Licence
- Visit the registrar’s office once you’ve arrived and lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage at least 2 days before your wedding. You will be charged a licence fee.
- Certification
- The wedding must be performed by a Fijian celebrant, although a foreign celebrant is still permitted to participate.
- Your marriage certificate will be issued immediately and then needs to be registered by the registrar. Subsequent apostillation isn’t required for Australians, but it would still be advisable regardless.
