No matter where you are in Thailand, be sure to tick off these five experiences while you're in the country!
1. Taste a classic Thai dish
Just about every road will offer a restaurant with wonderful Thai meals, each as tasty as the last. Whether it's a Tom Yum Goong (spicy shrimp soup), a Tom Kha Kai (chicken in coconut soup), or a Pad Thai (fried noodles), you haven't 'done' Thailand until you've tried one of these national dishes.
2. Shop at the markets
Markets are a wonderful way to dive into a culture head first, and Thailand is arguably one of the best places in the world for them. Whether it be the floating markets, the farmers' food markets, or just the bustling souvenir markets, make time for a quick visit to discover the thrill of the haggle and to pick up a little something along the way.
3. Visit a temple
Thailand is a deeply religious country, with approximately 95 per cent of Thai people being Buddhists, according to Thailand Tourism. Monks are revered and cared for by the public, and temples are a huge part of daily life. You'll find them in all corners of the country, and it may be best to take a tour for as much information and understanding as possible.
4. Take a ride in a Tuk Tuk
These three-wheeler contraptions are a fantastically fun way to get around. The drivers will get you where you need to go - just make sure you hold onto your bags! If you're concerned about the busy city streets, consider taking one in a quieter area so you still enjoy the experience without worrying about other vehicles.
5. Get a massage
Thai massages are world-renowned. Wait until the kids have driven you up the wall, or until you've had an exhausting day touring the sites, to sit down and let yourself be pampered by the professionals.
