Take an expedition down the Navua River to Nukusere. On Viti Levu, this area is utterly breathtaking. Some say it's one of the most unique river trips on Earth. You'll cruise down a chasm cut into the gorgeous landscape, so black volcanic cliffs stretch up on either side of you.
The verdant bush is thick in this rugged location, and many stunning waterfalls cut through the rock, splashing into the water below. The river itself is a deep green colour, and full of life.
Rafting here is a real treat, with rushing rapids a challenge and a thrill. Rivers Fiji offers a day trip down the water, and with adventure providers such as Viator and Discover Fiji Tours, you will also have the opportunity to visit Nukusere.
Nukusere is truly something special - it's here you will come in contact with authentic Fijian culture. You'll experience, first hand, ancient customs and traditions.
Some of these include a kava ceremony greeting. High chiefs will prepare the kava and welcome you with this signature beverage. The men of the village will perform a war dance, expressing themselves with song and movement.
Sit next to a Fijian woman as she calmly plaits a mat, and watch as locals complete a tapa painting and perform a folk dance. You can even join in when they start the taralala and tuboto, or snake dance.
When your adventure comes to a close, the villagers will say their goodbyes with Isa Lei, a farewell song.
