Bali baby: Top activities with toddlers

Bali baby: Top activities with toddlers

Thanks to established tourism infrastructure, warm weather and affordable accommodation and childcare options, Bali is a premier destination for families with young children.

There are a multitude of fun and educational activities on offer as well as relaxing and rejuvenating experiences. We've picked five of the best for you and your soon to be Bali babies.

1. For the bookworms

Toddlers are quickly developing cognitively and socially. To provide them with some extra stimulation and to support a non-profit Balinese organisation, head to Pondok Pekak Library and Learning Centre in Ubud. There's a large selection of fiction and non-fiction books for the whole family and the children's section is equipped with soft pillows and educational games.

You and your kids will be able to take part in traditional arts and crafts classes and music lessons and to peruse thousands of books in multiple languages. Families can build kites together and then fly them on the adjacent sports field - if the wind plays nice. There's also a cafe with drinks, snacks and free Wi-Fi.

Location: Jl Monkey Forest, Sebelah Timur Lapangan Ubud, Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia

2. For the wriggly worms

Peekaboo, located in Sanur, is a child's dream. This vast 1000 sqm, brightly coloured playground is open daily and features indoor and outdoor play areas with soft playhouses, interactive toys, educational books, car rides, play kitchens and more.

There's a cafe for the adults and a dedicated playschool for toddlers (two-four years old) to learn through play. Free trials are available for newcomers.

Location: Jl Bypass Ngurah Rai No.17, Sanur, Bali

3. For the water babies

Discover thrilling rides as well as places to relax and replenish at Waterbom Bali in Kuta. With names such as Green Vipers and Funtastic, the rides sell themselves. The adults can enjoy the Constrictor, which gets a four out of five for drench factor, thrill and speed. It's also the longest waterslide in the world at a quarter of a kilometre long.

You'll find a selection of eateries at Waterbom such as the Wantilan Food Court, UC Juicy Tank and a rustic wooden restaurant known as The Shack. There's even a sunken pool bar, where you can sip a tropical cocktail, as well as health and wellness facilities, including a spa where your kids can get their hair braided.

Location: Jl. Kartika Plaza Tuban, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

4. For the nature-lovers

Bali Bird Walks located in Tjampuhan Ubud, will provide you and your children with a multitude of natural delights. The organisation specialises in nature walks for children during which they can experience over 100 species of native birds including Java Kingfishers, Bar-winged Prinia and black-winged starlings.

The kids will also delight in colourful butterflies and medicinal trees and herbs. Bird walks through natural surrounds, past rice paddies and ancient temples take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Location: Tjampuhan Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. P.O. Box 194 Ubud, 80571 Bali, Indonesia

5. For the artists

To give your toddlers a taste of Bali's creative scene, take them to the Ubud Traditional Art Market. A vast array of handmade arts and crafts, as well as clothing and food are available. Your kids will be enthralled with Balinese hand-carved wooden masks, crochet designs and brightly coloured silk scarves and woven bags.

The market is open daily, and early mornings are a great time to visit before it gets too busy.

Location: Opposite the Royal Ubud Palace, at Jalan Raya Ubud No.35
