Amazing Family Resorts in Anaheim

Any family holiday in Southern California is likely to include a few days in Anaheim, taking in the wonder that is Disneyland Resort. It’s a good idea to allow at least a few days to take in all the fun and excitement on offer, but it’s equally important that you choose the right hotel from which to base yourself.  Here’s a rundown of our favourite, family-friendly Anaheim resorts, to help you decide which one best suits your family.

Disneyland Hotel

This resort has a range of room options to suit almost every family group, from standard studios that will comfortably accommodate a family of four to three-bedroom suites that will sleep as many as fourteen adults.  There’s even a selection of unique, themed Signature Suites, with décor that’s designed to evoke classic Disney moments including Pirates of the Caribbean and the goldrush-themed Big Thunder Mountain.  When you’re ready to unwind from a fun day exploring the Parks, it’s just a short stroll via the restaurants and shops of Downtown Disney District to your hotel, where you can enjoy a dip in one of three pools (kids of all sizes will love the monorail slides, fountains and waterfalls), and be sure to ask about special screenings of popular Disney movies.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

With a private entrance to Disneyland California Adventure Park and the Downtown Disney District within the hotel grounds, this hotel is the best option if you want direct, easy access. The rooms have special touches such as California-themed artwork on the walls and the latest technology such as coffee machines and smart TVs, while the restaurants offer a range of experiences from fine dining to breakfast with classic Disney characters.  At the end of the day, parents will have to decide between joining the kids on the 90-foot long redwood tree waterslide or hiring a babysitter and sneaking off to the in-house Mandara Spa for a little pampering.

Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel

Designed to celebrate the heyday of California beachfront boardwalks, this hotel is a wonderful blend of old-fashioned charm and modern convenience.  There’s a range of rooms to suit almost any family size, each with sand-and-surf themed furnishings and some with stunning views of Disney California Adventure Park and the World of Color night-time water spectacular.  The third-floor rooftop pool area offers plenty of options for the entire family to cool off and relax after a busy day in the Parks, plus on certain nights, it offers an ideal vantage point from which to view Disneyland Park fireworks, complete with broadcasted music and dialogue.

Howard Johnson Plaza Anaheim Hotel and Water Playground

It’s just an eight-minute walk to door from this great-value, family-friendly resort, so it’s easy to pop back to the hotel if the little ones need some downtime.  Once you’re settled in, the combination of colourful, retro-style rooms, a fun-filled games room and the incredible Castaway Cove water play area may make them reluctant to leave.  Spend your time away from Disneyland Resort firing the water cannons at approaching pirates, romping through the water fountains or taking a rejuvenating soak in the hot tub – there’s something to keep the entire family happy.

Desert Palms Hotel and Suites

If you’re looking for a home away from home during your stay in Anaheim, this may be the ideal place for you.  Entry level room types sleep up to four and come furnished with a fridge and a microwave so you can keep the family fueled for a day of excitement in the Parks.  Give yourself a break from all that California sunshine with a dip in the heated outdoor pool or take the kids on a Mickey and Minnie Mouse scavenger hunt.

Four Points By Sheraton

Just a ten-minute walk from Disneyland Resort, this boutique hotel offers a touch of luxury and a haven away from the excitement of the Parks.  There’s a selection of room types available that sleep up to four people, the pool and whirlpool spa provide a relaxing way to unwind after a busy day and you can refuel for the following day with Asian-American fusion cuisine at the in-house Tru Grits restaurant.
