Baby Steps in Fiji
Bula and welcome to family-friendly Fiji!
Leave any reservations you have about travelling with toddlers at the door. We're confident your whole clan will love holidaying on this magnificent island paradise, so there's no reason to leave anyone out. No matter how old your toddlers are, bring them along for the journey and let them share in the fun and frivolities of island life.
Fiji has the perfect blend of relaxed tropical vibes, more activities than you can poke a stick at and the friendliest locals you're likely to ever come across. There are plenty of resorts and holiday activities suited to both young and old, plus the Fijian locals are so friendly and welcoming toward children you'll immediately feel at ease.
The Shangri-La Fijian Resort and Spa is an amazing family destination, catering to children and adults with supervised activities for the kids and a lagoon area for plenty of on and off-water fun. Parents can sneak away to a secluded pool area or onsite gymnasium, or indulge in a Himalayan and Chinese fusion beauty treatment - simply find a babysitter and dash off for some much-needed adult time!
Who wants Fijian Fun for Kids and Total Bliss for Parents try MeiMei at the Outrigger on the Lagoon.Fiji, named for the Fijian phrase ‘to take care of’. An Outrigger Meimei or nanny gives your children one-on-one care plus the opportunity to enjoy a holiday with a genuine Fijian influence. Did we mention they also give parents time to indulge?
Daily activities include everything from playing in the Kids’ Club playground to learning Fijian arts and crafts, and fun language lessons. By the end of your holiday the kids will be able to teach you a thing or two about Fiji’s warmth and culture.
For an intimate family experience, you can't beat Castaway Island Resort with its private bures and reef. You'll feel like celebrities here, but no doubt the delightfully disgusting habits of your little ones will bring your crashing back down to reality soon enough. Not to worry - this resort has the added benefit of a complimentary child-minding service for children aged three years and older.
Relax along the stunning shores and take in the ocean waves as you push your baby's stroller along the beach. The fresh sea air and soothing sounds of the sea lapping at the sand will no doubt send your baby off for a nap and give you a bit of time to unwind - and perhaps fit in a cheeky cocktail!
Just make sure you come prepared with a little sunhat and lotion to keep your precious one cool and safe in the warm rays!Back to Top
Baby Steps in Bali
It's no secret - Australians love Bali, and the Balinese love Australians. But did you know that this love even extends to your tiny terrors? That's right, the whole family - even your little monsters - are welcome in this tropical paradise, so take your tots on the trip of a lifetime.
The locals here absolutely adore kids and will treat your little ones like their own - perfect for those moments you wish they truly did belong to someone else! Hospitality workers will often provide your tots with games, colouring books and crayons to while away the time waiting in restaurants, as well as providing meal options for those with more delicate palates. This means you can all enjoy meals out on the town.
Many Balinese resorts have inhouse kids' clubs, so check out their activities and options for looking after your kids while you're staying there. Sometimes all you want is a bit of downtime to yourself, and Bali is happy to oblige with childcare options and plenty of adult relaxation locations like spas and bars.
Your babies will love the picture-perfect beaches of Sanur, where you and your whole family can laze away the days in this incredibly laid-back beach location. You'll have blue skies year-long, and if you choose your times well you can even take in flickers of vibrant colour at the International Kite Festival. Babies will love watching them dance in the air for hours, giving you some much-needed time off!
For a relaxed day at the beach, launch your own kite into the turquoise sky and watch your kids' faces light up. If they're old enough (and coordinated enough!) they can even control the device themselves, or simply chase it along the ground. You can buy kites from many vendors in Bali, so don't worry about packing your own - you'll have enough to worry about when it comes to packing for the kids!
Take a closer look at the beautiful wildlife of the area at Bali Safari and Marine Park. Whether your kids take this in via stroller or they're old enough to totter around on their own, they'll love the huge selection of exotic animals, the marine park and theatre with live stage performances.Back to Top
Baby Steps in Thailand
Squealing kids driving you crazy? Try a Thai adventure for a unique holiday even the smallest family members will enjoy. The locals in Thailand place a firm value on family in their culture, so they will welcome you and your little ones with open arms.
If you're looking for a bit of down time after a busy year of child rearing, you're in luck. Many Thai locations such as Phuket and Koh Samui have kids' clubs and family rooms to help look after the younger members of your travel group. Sometimes this can be as easy as dropping them off and sneaking away for a lounge on the beach. You'll likely find plenty of meal deals where kids eat free, meaning your local dollar will stretch even further!
The beaches here are superb, and you may be tempted to while away the hours with your little ones playing in the sand and frollicking in the surf. Just make sure you pack your baby's sun protection essentials like a good hat and protective clothing.
If your toddlers are interested in animals and wildlife, make sure to check out a Samphran Elephant and Crocodile show. Witness these majestic animals up close and teach your kids all about their habitat and lifestyle.
Hua Hin could be the perfect destination for your young family due to its relaxed, beachy vibe. If you can tear yourself away from the ocean, take your tots to Monkey Mountain to not only get fantastic views of the area, but also experience a bit of wildlife with the island's resident primate population coming out to play. This is your opportunity to find out just how closely your tiny terror resembles our evolutionary friends - make sure you get a photo!
While there are plenty of activities to do in Thailand, from riding elephants to experiencing the local nightlife, travelling with small children can be pretty exhausting for everyone. Make sure you factor a couple of relaxed days into your travel plans and spend them poolside, on the beach or simply at your resort enjoying each other's company.Back to Top
Baby Steps in America
America has more family-friendly attractions and activities than you can poke a stick at, and there's no reason why you can't bring along your smallest bundles of joy to enjoy the fun.
Big kids (we're looking at you, Dad!) and tiny tots alike will love Disneyland, where dreams come true and your kids' favourite characters come to life. There's a whole range of things to do, plus the huge size of the park means it will keep little ones entertained for hours upon hours, while you sit back and take a breather.
If you head to Los Angeles you'll find a family friendly pier and beaches for your little ones to run amok on. While they may not be old enough to recognise the Hollywood celebrities that roam the streets (unless, of course, you see The Wiggles), you'll get a kick out of spying on stars eating their lunch or partaking in a spot of sunbathing.
New York is a great place to explore if you want to start your kids' cultural appreciation early. Test out your cherub's artistic flair at the Museum of Modern Art, or spend a day at the Children's Museum of Manhattan for a fantastic learning experience, class or tour.
Central Park is another fantastic destination to take the little ones to. The huge area is filled with playgrounds, refreshment venues, expanses of lawn to play on and, of course, the zoo. Push your pram over to Tisch Children's Zoo to let your tot get up close and personal with goats, sheep and even a pot-bellied pig!
If San Francisco is more your style, you'll love simply strolling along the bay and soaking up the atmosphere. Climb aboard a cable car with your children to experience a transport option with a difference, or head to the Fishermans' Wharf area to spot sea lions and enjoy local artists juggling, miming and making magic.Back to Top
Baby Steps in Hawaii
Hawaii - the postcard-perfect land of palm trees, sunsets and cocktails. It's too bad things might come screeching to a halt when we mention a stroller and small child, but bear with us! This tropical paradise is actually a perfect place to take your tots on holiday.
Whether you've holidayed on these beautiful islands many times before or it's your very first time saying "aloha" to Hawaii, one of the best things about taking the whole clan along is that you'll experience the trip through their excitable eyes. You'll see the luscious beaches in a whole new light as you watch your little ones play in the sand and marvel at the marine life, and you'll be amazed at how long they can spend peering at seashells and chasing hermit crabs.
All the better for you, as while they're distracted you can even slip in a cocktail or two and take in the rare moment of serenity!
For good old fashioned family fun, build a sand castle with your smallest tykes while you stare at the stunning sunset and crystal clear waves lapping at your feet. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, treat your family to a trip aboard a glass-bottom boat to see amazing aquatic activity from a whole new perspective. Just make sure you equip your stroller with enough snacks to keep your baby satisfied throughout the ride, or there's a good chance you'll feel the wrath of your fellow travellers when little Timmy or Tina starts to grizzle.
The Hawaiian locals pride themselves on their family values, incorporating "ohana" (Hawaiian for family) into everything from events to learning programs throughout the island. You can choose to pack as much culture and adventure into your trip as you like - if your children are old enough to explore the island's volcanoes and wildlife with you, you'll be spoiled for choice here.
Alternatively, use your Hawaiian holiday as a great way to relax, unwind and spend quality time with your brood.Back to Top
Baby Steps in Vanuatu
Got kids? Take a trip to Vanuatu and let them loose along the small islands, each with its own magic to be uncovered. Full of balmy breezes, gourmet food and with a relaxed laid-back beach vibe, you and your little ones are bound to love it here. Plus, even if your toddlers do play up, at least they'll be doing it in a beautiful setting!
One of Vanuatu's most special features is its warm and friendly culture. The Ni-Vanuatu people are exceptionally warm and caring, and won't hesitate to offer your little treasures a big smile and a kind word.
Take your babies on a trip to the local markets to take in the sights, sounds and aromas of the local culture, and pick up a few souvenirs while you're there to remind you of your trip when you're back home.
Another huge perk of travelling with tots in Vanuatu is that you can hire vehicles in Port Vila and Luganville with an Australian driver's licence, meaning you can load up a car with all your baby essentials and head to whether you want to go, whenever you want. Parents will know this is about as close to freedom as you can get when kids are this age, so embrace it!Back to Top
